My philosophy

Key to success... reciprocal relationships; not parasitic. Some folks don't seem to grasp that.

drawring

this semester, my grad elective is drawing... Seven drawings a week is all. woot!
they need to, and will, be larger.
My goal this semester is to be as authentic as possible. Although sometimes I wonder what authenticity really is or whether it can be fully achieved… maybe when you’re a child but after the first sting of reality it gets a lot harder. I’ve been thinking a lot about relationships… I don’t like to admit that because it makes me feel vulnerable but maybe that’s what I need to do in order to grow and get the most out of my time here. Whenever I’m creating something I’m always considering formal relationships such as color, space, and materials but that’s only the half of it. I’ve been thinking a lot about human interactions lately. Being in a new environment has changed my perspective a bit and I’ve started to ask more questions rather than have answers. Relationships are very important to me… so much so that I have a very hard time establishing them, when I do; I have an extremely hard time letting go. I have gone through an intense amount of pain through loss of relationships and because of this my interactions with most people are a daily struggle. This struggle is partially because of my insecurities but also due to an untimely passing of someone very close to me. I didn’t even know myself. I don’t get to experience anything more of that person than a memory. This doesn’t seem very fair to me. The experience has left a huge impression on me and I have learned to take the things that I value very seriously… not take them for granted. On the other hand, I am left with the fear of loosing again.

My work is a search for solace and resolution. Through the process of creation I'm able to work through my grief.

Round 2

My goal is to immerse myself in my work this next couple of months. I am re-evaluating my intent... there's a lot going on, in terms of relationships; I have an inkling that things are going to be very different.

soon

I have been given the opportunity to curate a show for the Jorgenson gallery at Uconn. It's been an amazing process! My goal is to expand the Uconn community’s visual horizons, if you will, to artists with a fresh and playful approach to the art process. I've been successful so far and am excited to provide an awesome show for CT/UCONN! Not that CT doesn't have awesome shows... I'm just contributing to the awesomeness I spose... If you’re in the area you should visit!

winter break findings and sketches

“Sometime look at a novice workman or a bad workman and compare his expression with that of a craftsman whose work you know is excellent and you’ll see the difference. The craftsman isn’t ever following a single line of instruction. He’s making decisions as he goes along. For that reason he’ll be absorbed and attentive to what he’s doing even though he doesn’t deliberately contrive this. His motions and machine are in a kind of harmony. He isn’t following any set of written instructions because the nature of the material at hand. The material and his thoughts are changing together in a progression of changes until his minds at rest, at the same time the material is right.”

“Sounds like art,” the instructor says.
